A good meal is always a good excuse to plan a getaway. And Monção is the best destination!
With the arrival of October comes the Month of Monção Style Lamb, where lovers of good gastronomy have the opportunity to taste this dish with great tradition in the county and enjoy a unique sensory experience.
Recognized and awarded as one of the 7 Gastronomic Wonders of Portugal, “Cordeiro à Moda de Monção” (Monção Style Lamb) arrives at the diners’ table in the form of refined sentiment on the part of those who care for it, share it and love it! It’s the affection, respect and hospitality with which the people of this territory welcome those who visit them.
This year’s edition also marks the exchange and sharing of knowledge, flavors and experiences with different local migrant communities, who sprinkle the Monçanense territory with distant tastes and delicacies, thus highlighting the power of gastronomy in uniting peoples. A cultural exchange, where aspects of each country’s traditional sweets will be revealed.
Each community will be asked to make and present a typical sweet from their country of origin, which can be tasted by the public in the Alvarinho Museum’s Territory Room. In this environment of sharing, there will be a series of workshops aimed at the same communities, where they will learn how to cook “Monção-style lamb” and “Monção rusks”.
