Lamprey Rally 2023 | XLIV Edition February 25 and 26
GASTRONOMIC WEEKEND | CLASSICS MEETING | CAR SKILL TEST
After two years in the pits due to pandemic restrictions, the “Lamprey Rally” is back in the famous Praça Deu-la-Deu. The historic center of Monção is already preparing to host the XLIV edition of this iconic event on the weekend of February 25 and 26. On the table will be the gastronomic distinction of “Lamprey à Moda de Monção” as a dish of excellence. On wheels, the “IV Lamprey Classics Meeting” and the promotion of what is one of Portugal’s most emblematic and charismatic car races.
The event, promoted by the Municipality of Monção in conjunction with the Parallel Velocity Club, will follow the normal pattern of recent years. It will kick off on Saturday night with the spectacular Night Qualifying Race, followed by the usual supplementary races on Sunday. The 1st Supplementary Test in the morning at 11:00 and the 2nd Supplementary Test in the afternoon at 16:00. The prize-giving ceremony is scheduled for late afternoon.
This weekend, the municipality’s restaurants are joining the motoring initiative, presenting different ways of cooking the famous cyclostome on their menus, which tantalizes the senses of lovers of good gastronomy. This traditional meal, made using culinary secrets from the past, is accompanied by wine products from the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, such as the famous Alvarinho, and tasty traditional sweets (roscas, rosquilhos and papudos).
Every year, this event fills the streets of the historic center and delights the participants, who have the chance to combine the adventure of car skill with the pleasure of tasting a tasty lamprey from the River Minho.
